Okay, legitimate question.

Why is Honda not developing a real rear-wheel drive platform? They literally have everything else they would need in the parts bin to make a new S2k or whatever they would want to call it. All they need o do is make a small, RWD platform.

And I know this isn't as simple as I'm making it sound, but with almost everything else that they would need already designed, it would be like connecting the dots instead of starting from the ground up.

Put a K24 in it, suspension off of the older Si, and seats out the CR-Z, and you'd have a winner. Honda, chop chop. The Toyobaru is makin you look bad.

Rwd will make it cost more. More powerful engine will raise the price. New car would take away development time from a civic rework or a new minivan. 2 seat sports car will alienate most of the market. And at the end of the day it wouldn't be a halo car like a Raptor is. Subaru and Scion both have a quirky side, target the younger audience and car enthusiets. Which leaves "to have one" as the only reason why for Honda. In my opinion of course.

Ther are a lot of questions that would need to be answered.

Is there a market beyond the hardcore Jalops? They only sold 110k S2000 over 12 years.
Does it warrant the development time to do it right?
Do they have the engineering resources to do it?
Do they have the production capacity?
How does this fit within their current brand structure.

Halo cars are not just about their individual sales. They also create more sales for cheaper, more practical, but similar cars. Think the Corvette and the Camaro. So with the NSX returning to Acura, Honda will need something more sporty than the Accord V6 to satiate the 99%.

Honda doesn't care about us anymore. They think the Civic Si and Accord V6 are acceptable performance cars.

Honda needs a mini NSX for aspirational buyers who won't have the means to buy a new one.

Don't get me wrong. They commendable. I love my Si, but I know it's not a sports car in any way.

Both are fine for what they are, but that Honda thinks that's acceptable for the enthusiast market is very telling.

No need to tell me. I have a halo car sitting in the garage. It resulted in a temporary bump for Mitsubishi before they fell into the state they are in now. Besides, it sounds like Honda is putting its efforts behind the NSX replacement as a halo.

All that said, I would personally love more RWD, good handling convertibles.
